On the Giffords shooting

Still reeling from the awfulness of the events in Tucson this weekend — including the death of a nine-year-old girl who was born on 9/11, had an interest in politics, and was attending Representative Giffords’ event to see government in action.

Andrew Sullivan, among others, is keeping track of unfolding events, and refusing to let those on the Right off the hook for the vitriolic and murderous rhetoric that helps encourage such acts of insanity.

I keep returning to this thought: if the shooter had turned out to be Muslim, we’d be having an entirely different conversation. Kudos to Keith Olbermann and any others who are unafraid to call this act what it is: terrorism.
